About Katya Nichole

Throughout my life I’ve been captivated by color, design, and the artistic process. In my quest to learn, I attended both Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, NY and ArtCenter College of Design in Pasadena, CA where I was drawn to painting, graphic design, sculpture, textile design, and metalworking to name a few avenues. I found myself jumping from interest to interest, exploring new processes and techniques all while my instructors told me to “pick one thing.” It was stressful and a bit stifling not knowing which direction to pursue.

While trying to find my niche in the business world post graduation, I stumbled upon the artistic side of custom cake design, and since forming Katya Nichole Cakes, a bakery in Metro Detroit Michigan, haven’t looked back. While some may say it is a bit out of left field from my art degree, I find that cake design allows me to engage with all of my interests while being able to create and share something truly special and unforgettable with my clients.

My custom cake designs often feature textures, movement, and hand made sugar flowers creating a natural balance rooted in contemporary elegance. I love what I do and look at each new cake as a blank canvas with an opportunity to tell a story, your story, whatever it may be.
